六個月 只是彈指之間

還記得 跟台灣的同事在KTV喝酒
還記得 同仁幫我在全家福辦歡送 信琪授旗
還記得 跟心愛的人說再見
還記得 跟家人在機場淚眼汪汪
還記得 剛到美國落腳在昌林家 Yuki貼心的為我準備了新床單 新毛巾 還有沐浴乳
還記得 昌林帶著我東征西討 又打璧球又騎腳踏車又打壘球
還記得 Judy幫我把住的地方搞定 Silvia四處尋找給我的車
還記得 自己鬧了好多笑話 把昌林弄得又好氣又好笑
還記得 倒數著第一次回台灣的日子
還記得 在美國第一次開車闖紅燈
還記得 把GPS的車充弄丟 從昌林家自己想辦法回到住的地方
還記得 清晨要爬起來跟家人skype
還記得 終於回家在機場看見家人的高興
還記得 每天下班回住的地方 要把門打開面對自己一個人的那種不舒服
還記得 跟客戶開電話會議把事情給解決
還記得 好不容易把屁股擦好了 產品又出狀況
還記得 兩邊的考績標準不同 在那邊自己調適
還記得 想找志工的機會 卻後來被自己放棄
還記得 認識了一班打壘球的好兄弟 沒有贏過卻從沒放棄
還記得 到倉庫去幫忙包裝出貨
還記得 美國員工俱樂部花心思辦了許多活動
還記得 第一次出差到奧勒岡州跟華盛頓州的旅行 想念台灣的人
還記得 收到領養童的信 想讓我買點美國的東西送給他
還記得 去賭城充滿無限懷念 又無限的累人的展會
還記得 第一次去拜訪美國的客戶
還記得 為了申請特價 跟台北的同仁大小聲 跟美國的業務拖時間
還記得 幫忙採購東西 花了很多時間
還記得 去大華超市買東西 想起台灣的種種 眼淚流個不停
還記得 辛巴樂的香腸在裡面吃不怎樣 在昌林家用烤的 變得超級好吃
還記得 帶Thomas去聖塔芭芭拉 還有那個海灘
還記得 自己跑去天體營 應驗了昌林說的 都是老阿公老阿罵
還記得 還記得

怎麼這一切 後天 就到了終點
這幾天 收到許許多多的同事的問候跟禮物 也收到球隊的兄弟為我貼心做的禮物
每每想起 這些感動的時刻 就讓我眼淚實在忍不住奪眶而出
我跟品芳說 這到底是傷心 還是感動
我後來想 是感動
在美國的這些日子 我盡情的享受了當下 跟每個人 我都珍惜當下能與他共度的一段時光
感動於這些日子他們對我的照顧
感動於這些日子我們一起創造的記憶
感動於在我要離開的時候 大家為了我 花這麼多的心思

謝謝你們 謝謝你們 在我生命裏面 這是一段非常棒非常棒的回憶 謝謝 謝謝你們
祝福在我生命中的出現的每一個人 都能平安

美國行 第一天的感想

出發前 其實心裡對於自己要離開自己愛的家人跟朋友們 心裡很不捨

而且也很不想搭飛機離開台灣
但是擔心歸擔心 害怕歸害怕 還是得去面對啊
我懂
只是做到 真的不容易
出發前 常常晚上看著女兒的臉 眼淚不自覺的就流下來
那天女兒生病了 可是只剩下最後一天假期 之前就答應兒子要去看電影
跟姐姐徵詢 可不可以去看電影
因為答應了抵敵 如果今天不去 爸爸就要好久才能帶他去了
自己也哽咽了

上了飛機 遇到大亂流 心裡超害怕 只能不斷的唸著觀世音菩薩的名號
祈求他保護這班飛機的所有人平安到達美國
下了飛機 其實心裡就感到平安了

心情才漸漸好起來
因為 要開始面對新生活了
從機場往公司的路上 聽著廣播
以前出差 聽到廣播沒有反應 因為我聽得懂也好 聽不懂也罷
反正 我一下子就回家了
這次不同了 我得開始認真注意別人說什麼了
因為我可是要在這裡過十個月
得真的融入這裡的生活跟文化呢
想到這 就有一股淡淡的哀傷跟莫名的興奮

到了昌林家 Yuki很貼心的已經幫我準備了棉被枕頭 以及專屬的盥洗毛巾與沐浴乳
好感動說
洗了澡 稍作休息 跟昌林開始鬼扯 只要聊天我就會忘記那些不愉快的情緒
晚餐 吃關東煮耶!! 很溫暖 很滿足 很幸福!!
晚餐吃完 跟昌林又到外面去散步 溫度就降得很低 很冷了

回到家才七點呢 開始要撐著了
因為真的很想睡 也不能思考 可是如果睡了 時差要調整就更難了

今天早上 打電話回家 本想用skype 不用錢
沒想到家裡的電腦沒有搞定 所以不成功
就改用skype out 哈哈 結果還是不用錢呢!!
而且市話跟手機都可以打喔!!
跟家裡的人通話 心裡安定了 我想 美國的這趟旅程 真的順利展開了!!!

一早起床 吃著昨晚的關東煮當早餐 心裡還是滿滿的感激
感謝有機會公司安排我來美國
感謝家人跟親友的支持
感謝一路上長榮航空公司的機組人員順利完成任務送我到美國
感謝昌林夫婦在美國的招待
感謝上九老師我人還沒到就已經在關照著我
加油吧 這一路 一定會很順利的

ICF-1150 榮獲台灣國家精品獎


今天下午,才剛剛拜訪完客戶回公司
行銷部的茱兒寄了一封讓我超級高興的通知信
他告訴我 我們公司今年送的十二項產品都得到了台灣精品獎!!

重點是 我那個讓我覺得非常驕傲的產品ICF-1150 也在其中

我的天哪!好高興好高興喔!
這個產品 感謝岱玲 泳聰 嘉良 文欽的努力
還有名震的協助 以及承翰 明綾
更謝謝筱雲 跟躍輝的指導
還有原始產品規劃的 啟仁 逸峰 以及旭正大神
這個產品才能順利上市

上市十個月 ICF-1150 今年在中國跟澳洲共拿到兩個案子
都是最高等級的產品喔!!
明年歐洲還有一個四千套的案子
也是非常值得期待的!!

真的超級高興的!!
等到公司新聞搞出來,再正式的把所有今年有過的產品貼出來吧!

第二次到法國,又傷心,又高興

昨夜我們在法國開完會,跟德國分公司同事Martin Jenkner吃完飯後,我們決定去看艾非爾鐵塔
搭著計程車,從La Defence出發,經過了Champs-Élysées 香榭麗舍大道,遠遠的看到了Arch of Triumph 凱旋門,
突然之間,眼淚就全湧了出來,心裡感到超難過
六年前跟我來法國的S 當年我們我們從協和廣場一路走到香榭麗舍大道 就在路中間,以凱旋門當背景照相
然後我們到了羅浮宮前也照了相,下午我們到了巴黎最有名的咖啡店喝咖啡
彷彿這一切,都才昨天發生
今天,S跟我已經形同陌路,變成競爭對手了
想起這過去一起打拼的情誼,心裡就覺得很捨不得
眼淚就留了下來

Martin問我怎麼了,我就告訴他了這段故事
我就笑著跟他說,請他不要這麼快離開公司,而且就算離開,不要跟我為敵,
不然下次我到艾菲爾鐵塔,會變成想起他而難過,兩個人都笑了!!!

第一次是在塞納河上看到艾菲爾鐵塔,遠遠的看
昨夜是第二次看到,就在眼前
沒想到,竟然還有燈光秀耶!我把它錄了下來,放在Youtube上


很美 很美,出門前,Jean還跟我說很美
我跟Martin 說 可惜今天晚上沒有跟情人來 哈哈哈
真是非常羅曼蒂克呢!!

Walk into China again

Since 2004, this is the 5th time to fly to China. Especially after reading the book "Long River, Wide Sea" written by Ms. YinTai Lon, I have some special feeling.

When I was a student, I was educated that people in Mainland China were suffered and waiting for our salvation. It seemed that we have wring impression of this country. It's getting more and more free in China. Yes, we still cannot log on Youtube, Facebook, PC Home, and many websites since China government blocked all those "inadequate" information and may damage their regime.

But I do see more and more people are getting rich. Many people are still struggling for the life and death, but even in modern country, such as Taiwan or USA, we can also find poverty everywhere.

But I also find one thing which is very interesting. Many cities look like almost the same. When we step out of the train station, no matter which one I am, except the sign board of the name of this place is different, the architecture of the station is almost the same; the design of the downtown is almost the same; the queue waiting for taxi is almost the same. It can be Wu Lu Mu Chi, Nan Jing, or Tien Jing. Yes, ShenZhen, Shanghai and Beijing are quite different because of the level of the city are different from others.

Without getting on a taxi, we cannot go anywhere. But to take taxi is a king of battle. I can always find there are people waiting in front of me. Then I walk to the front, maybe even I walk 30 mins already, there are still people there waving their hands to taxi driver. After 30 mins waiting, if luckily, there is a taxi which is empty and driving close to me, I need to open the door quickly otherwise, there will be someone I don't know sneaks out and catches on the taxi and shuts the door and leaves. Gosh!

The price of the food in Mc Donald and KFC is almost the same in Taipei and in USA. But in Taipei, the wage is 3 times of the people work in Shanghai as a white collar worker. Then I guess people cannot afford to eat in McDonald or KFC frequently. But it's always crowed and full there! Then I wonder how come people can eat there. Then I notice, there are 18M people in Shanghai which is almost equivalent with the population in Netherlands. But the Shanghai is only 1/7 of Netherlands for the land. So even people is seldom having food in McDonald or KFC, ugh, we can always see the over crowded restaurants.

China is also the only country in the world building many subways in many cities. Because of the population, it is not allowed to let people have freedom to apply for the license plate of a car. People need to take a bid! If we say a 4 persons family owned a car, then how can you image 4M cars moving in a city? Air pollution, nosie pollution, etc. will come at the same time terribly. So to make people live in the metropolitan happily and easily, mass transportation must be very convenience. No wonder we will see subways in more than 40 cities in China.

這兩年擔任PM的工作 應該是進MOXA這幾年來 難度最高的一次
PM思考的邏輯 以及PM應該有的知識
我通通都缺乏 但是工作並不會因為我的不足而停下來

PM把他人生的所有精華,全部放進產品後,交給業務
業務要負責去拜訪客戶開發市場 協助傳遞價值
以前總不懂 PM為何如此豬頭 怎麼這個也想一半 另外一個想一半
這邊斷手 那邊缺腳的 就是不能完美的作一個產品

真正當了PM才知道 PM怎麼可能懂這麼多
我負責轉換器的產品線兩年
剛開始,我連安規都不懂,雖然我立志成為MOXA最懂安規的PM
但是 時間沒有等我 我得把產品規格開出來給RD
讓RD才能依照規格設計產品並驗證合不合格
甚至 RD對規格有疑慮 我還得說明清楚為什麼我這麼想
剛開始 我四處尋求支援 在眾家兄弟的力挺中
我挺過了第一次的產品開發案

然後我又回到了原點 原因是 我的產品線所缺少的產品
在不斷開發的過程中 知識不是累積的 全部從新開始
我讀IC的規格書 一條一條畫線
我的時間極其有限 我實在挪不出更多時間來做其他事情
我覺得很苦很累 可是這都沒有人可以幫忙
讀那些文件 沒有人可以幫忙我讀 我不懂的 可以找到人問
但是資訊不會有人幫我整理 要靠自己塞進腦袋裡
這段時間 真的很累
老闆問我時間還要多久 我實在答不出來 因為我有很多的問題
我實在沒有答案 也甚至不知道要怎麼找答案
可是到最後 我卻是那個必須給答案的人

Job rotation in every 2 years

Review the past 8 years, there are 4 times of job rotation.

When I applied the job to Moxa, I asked to be the sales for international business. In the interview with Michael, he told me that he expected I could be the sales for Taiwan market for some time then he will arrange my transferring.

In the first 2 years, I won several big tenders in telecom market. And I was the the global record keeper on selling some special products including terminal severs and remote power control units.

Then Michale didn't forget his commitment. He passed his message to John Lin, the GM of Moxa at that time. And I got a chance to be promoted to be RSM of Europe. That changed my life a lot. With the experience of working with European, I started to open my eyes and have a more open attitude to look at myself. I thought that I should work very hard to help my family rich before. After being a RSM of Europe, I started to slow down my tempo. I started to think about the balance of my life.

With 2 years more working with European market, then Moxa has a reorganization and I was trasferred to be the Business Development Manager of the biggest product line, device server, we called it DN. But that was not a very happy experience because I was used to talk to channels directly and visit customer directly. I am not used to stay behind of branch office and try to find a way to co-operate with people and make things happened. I didn't know what's the co-operation before.

I was stuck there for 2 years and had a chance to go to Asiaworks which is a training center that gave me the power and reborn. Also, I need to thank Andy Cheng, without him, I already left Moxa.

The 2 years in DN, even I am not happy and feel suffered, it helped me to know how the production department work since I had many misunderstanding before.

Then 2 years ago, Moxa had another time of reforming. Bee Lee, one of my best friends, he suggested that I can take the chance to transfer to be a Product Manager.
After considering of his suggestion, I decide to convince my boss to see if I can handle this new challenge. So I went to Sure-En, and thank him to giving me this chance to be a PM.

This is absolutely a new challenge and maybe is the highest one so far. The way of PM thinking is totally different from a sales person. In the past, I thought it should be easy and wondering why our PM and RD always need to take such a long time to satisfy customers' demand. After being a PM, I realize that the resource is so tight and to utilize the resource well is to help this company grow and make profit. Then I understand why the PM always moved so slow.

During this 2 years, I feel helpless and frustrated quite often. No one can help me to go through it all the time. But I must thank that there are many mentors and senior PM in Moxa help to guide me and lead me go through the darkness. I was not alone even I still feel longly sometime. But I still make products one by one. I work very hard, I study hardware knowledge and regulatory standard. I work with hardware engineers and win their friendship. Journey Wei, Mango you, and Casper Yang, are the people always stay by my side to give me direction and solution all the time. Ray Hsu, Leon, Johnny, Bee, Stephen, Stanley, Zico, Vincent Liu, Tommy, Nick, Andy Chang, CP, and many friends that I cannot mention one by one. Without you, I cannot work through the past 2 years. Every time think of you guys, I can feel tears in my eyes.

Recently, I got another chance to go back to be a sales. Product is not big, on the contrary, very tiny. And we are the late comer. I dreamed about this product to be available 4 years ago. Now I have a new chance to sell it. I want it to become success and I believe I can make it. I sell MiiNePort, and the product manager of this product is a charming, handsome and very smart guy which is amazing. Several days ago, I need his help to call a customer. I try to write down some notes for him and when he phoned, I put down some other questions on the note according to his react to customer. I am afraid that the time is so short to write the question completely so I can only give a brief. But believe it or not, he is really a person has talent of understanding people. He even knows my intention of asking that question and gave a perfect question to customer. It's very happy to work with a smart guy. I really mean it!

Comparing with PM work, I suddenly feel it's easier for me to be a sales. :-)

Pull high and Pull Low Resistor Setting

How to Configure the ICF-1150’s Pull High/Low Resistors

Moxa’s new ICF-1150 media converter provides users with a valuable tool for tuning the converter’s pull high/low resistors. The two rotary switches located on the converter’s front panel can be adjusted independently to one of ten resistance values to ensure that data is transmitted without error through an RS-485 multi-drop network. You can go to Moxa's website to check the table.

Tuning the pull high/low resistors will inevitably involve a certain amount of trial-and-error. The brute force approach is to start with the lowest value on the dial, test the integrity of the network, and then work your way up the dial if you find that your data is not transmitted properly. A more intelligent approach is to use basic electronics principles to derive a reasonable starting value for the pull high/low resistance values. In this tech note we give users a straightforward method of determining such a value.

RS-485 communication uses balanced line drivers and differential transmission over 2 wires to transmit data between nodes. The precise amount of power needed by the interface transceiver driver at each node of an RS-485 network is influenced by the number of nodes, which can range from just a few all the way up to 256. As more nodes are added, the equivalent internal load impedance of the network as a whole will increase proportionately. For example, if a device can handle 32 nodes on the bus then the equivalent internal load impedance of the network as a whole is generally 12 KΩ. Since the impedance increases proportionately to the number of nodes, if the device can handle 64 nodes then the equivalent internal load impedance would be 24 KΩ, and if it can handle 256 nodes then the equivalent internal load impedance would be 96 KΩ. Since on RS-485 networks most devices are connected in parallel, a larger resistance will have a smaller effect on the total impedance.

The voltage difference across the two signal lines of a balanced line receiver is used to indicate the value of a bit. If the voltage difference is between 200 mV and 6 V, then the bit value is 1. If the voltage difference is between -200 mV and -6 V, then the bit value is 0. Voltage differences between -200 mV and 200 mV are interpreted as unknown. In addition, a voltage difference greater than 200 mV or less than -200 mV is used to indicate an idle state (also called tri-state), which means that all drivers connected the network are inactive.

Use fiber converter in Track Power Substation

We found that many substation are still using RS-422/485 as the main bus for long distance communication. One of the reasons is the protocol is simple and stable.

In a substation, there are many meters to record voltage, current, or harmonic, etc.
Most of the meters are using RS-485 to be the communication interface. Modbus is also very popular. How ever, no matter Modbus or RS-485, the physical layer are the same. It supports multi-drop connection or daisy-chain. that saves a lot of wiring cost from the star topology.

To bring all the data from the remote site to the center, many engineers are using a stand-alone serial to fiber converter and put a chassis media converter in the center to do the conversion.

In the center, since there are many serial fiber converter modules in the chassis, there must be a multiport serial board, or a multiport device server to bring those data back to computer.

3-way Communication for Serial-to-Fiber Media Converters

In general, serial-to-fiber converters on the market today only
provide one serial port and one fiber port for physical layer
media conversion. But as industrial networking applications
increase in complexity, users have started to demand
additional capabilities and features including easy wiring,
system diagnostics, and dual hosts/slaves. This white paper
explains how to use 3-way communication on Moxa’s ICF-1150
series media converters to achieve these various benefits on a
single device.

Let us use the ICF-1150 series media converters to illustrate
how 3-way communication works for serial-to-fiber converters.
Each ICF-1150 is equipped with one fiber port and two serial
ports. The D-sub connector is used for RS-232 communication
and the removable terminal block is used for RS-422 or RS-485
communication. When the ICF-1150 series converter receives
data through one of its ports, it will send the data back out
through the remaining 2 ports. For example, when the
ICF-1150 series receives a command from the remote device
via the fiber port, it will convert the command and transmit it
via the RS-232 port and RS-422/485 port at the same time.

Three-way communication brings the following benefits:
1. Easy wiring
2. Easy system diagnostic
3. Dual hosts/clients, redundant solution, and data logging

Easy Wiring
Compared to traditional serial-to-fiber converters that only
have one serial port and one fiber port, Moxa’s ICF-1150 series
provides 3 ports for data communication. Based on our many
years of experience, we have selected the most common
connectors used in the industry, such as D-sub for RS-232
connections and removable terminal blocks for RS-422/485
connections. Adopting the most commonly used connectors
can save users a great deal of time in field installation and
maintenance.

Easy System Diagnostic
When connecting PLCs or meters to a fiber converter, users
need a clear way to diagnose what is wrong if the send/receive
data are blocked, stopped, or an error occurs. In most cases,
users will change the wiring to see if the failure was caused by
improper wiring. Users may also try using a USB-to-serial
converter to connect the converter to a laptop that can run
diagnostics. After checking the data transmission, users
remove the USB-to-serial converter and reconnect all the
wires. However, none of that can guarantee that the new wiring
is correct.

Three-way communication can solve this problem and fulfill
customer expectations. Let us examine the following 2
scenarios to better understand this concept.

A. Connecting an RS-485 device to fiber converter.
Since the RS-232 port on the fiber converter is still unused, we
can connect the RS-232 port to a laptop and open the COM port
by “Hyper Terminal” to see what data is running. After running
diagnostics and correcting the wiring (if needed), we can
remove the link between the laptop and converter without
affecting any running systems.

Gigabit media converter makes a cost-effective extension for remote management

MOXA released a new industrial-grade gigabit media converter, called IMC-101G . This new product offers industrial-grade media conversion between a 10/100/1000BaseT(X) connection and 1000BaseSX/LX/LHX/ZX, allowing users to extend the distance between copper based connections with fiber optic cables. The IMC-101G has an open SFP slot that allows users to plug in the appropriate SFP optics to suit a variety of applications. Since media converters are relatively inexpensive, the IMC-101G gives system managers an economical means of extending the distance of existing networks for remote management. The IMC-101G can extend transmission distance up to 80 kilometers (with single mode fiber) at the super fast 1000 Mbps transmission speed.

Industrial-grade reliability
The IMC-101G has the features needed to work reliably in harsh, industrial environments, and the reliable, rugged design is excellent for keeping your industrial automation applications running non-stop. Each IMC-101G converter comes with Link Fault Pass-Through, which gives system maintainers an efficient means of troubleshooting broken links. In addition, the IMC-101G has a relay output warning alarm to help prevent damage and loss, supports redundant power inputs, and the casing is IP30-rated. The standard IMC-101G models support an operating temperature range of 0 to 60°C, and the wide temperature models can be used in a temperature range of -40 to 75°C.
